Catalytic Emission Control 7.5 hec

The scope of course is to give an understanding of catalysis and an overview of catalytic techniques used for emission control. The lectures cover to following topics: i) fundamental processes important for heterogeneous catalysis, ii) experimental techniques used in catalysis research, iii) modelling of catalysis at different time and length scales and iv) examples of activities at the catalysis research frontier.

Examination: Home exercises, laboratory exercises and a mini-project (literature study).

Katalys 7.5 hec (KTK011)

Kursen syftar till att få en djupare förståelse av fenomenet katalys samt dess viktiga industriella tillämpningar. I kursen behandlas bland annat på vilket sätt katalysatorer verkar utgående från växelverkan mellan reaktanter och katalysator. Olika typer av katalysatorer tas upp, samt industriellt viktiga katalytiska processer inom kemisk industri, petrokemisk industri, raffinaderiindustri och miljövård. Uppbyggnaden av katalysatorer kopplas till deras funktion och användning. De huvudsakliga målen med kursen är förståelsen för principerna för industriell katalys samt katalysatorns roll i ett större, tillämpat, sammanhang.

Examination: Projektarbete (experimentellt) samt skriftlig tentamen.

Surface Physics and Surface Processes 7.5 hec (TIF020)

This course is an introduction to the field of surface physics and surface processes with particular emphasis on geometrical and electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces and on dynamics of surface processes all from the atomic/molecular viewpoint. The latter include dissociative adsorption of small molecules on metal surfaces, catalytic reactions, etc. Experiments and computational methods relevant for these topics are reviewed.

Examination: Two mini-projects and one major project (literature studies).
